On its debut in 1996, the original Renault Scénic made history as a pioneer of the compact MPV concept. It has consistently ranked as Europe’s most popular people carrier, with total sales now exceeding the 3.3 million mark.
Voted European Car of the Year in 1997, Scénic immediately succeeded in attracting customers looking for levels of interior space and versatility that conventional C-segment models could not provide. Renault’s vision prompted a fundamental and lasting change in the way the motor industry answered the needs of modern motorists.
After more than two million units had been produced, Renault introduced the second generation model, Scénic II, in 2003. Once again, it raised the bar with a car that performed better and delivered even more useful features than its predecessor. Moreover, Renault went further than any other manufacturer by offering a compact MPV in two versions with different lengths. Following the example set by the luxurious Espace and Grand Espace people carriers, the standard five-seat Scénic II was joined within a year by the seven-seat Grand Scénic, which provided an extra row of easy fold-down seats within its longer, but nevertheless, eye-catching body.
In March 2009, a new era in the success story began with the unveiling of New Scénic and New Grand Scénic at the Geneva motor show. Forming part of Renault’s latest-generation Mégane model family, New Scénic builds on the established strengths of its predecessors, while making notable advances in performance, quality, ride and handling, safety and passenger comfort.
